New Netherlands postscript
As the BGC’s own Dutch New York project is deinstalled this week in the Gallery, I thought again of the Charles Gehring profile the New York Times published over the holidays.
Mr. Gehring is the director of the New Netherlands project, and the article described his over-thirty-years-long project translating “12,000 pages of Dutch-era letters, deeds, court rulings, journal entries and other items that have been housed at the [New York] State Library for decades”.
Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet:

There’s also a link therein to images from a graphic novel about Dutch New York by George O’Connor, just one of the myriad books to come of the project, from Russell Shorto’s bestselling Island at the Center of the World (F 128.4 .S56 2004) on down.
